Shannon on Gov. Whitmer’s first State of the State address
LANSING — Tonight, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer delivered her first State of the State address, outlining her vision for the state and calling for bipartisan collaboration to address the issues facing Michigan’s working families. In response, state Rep. Nate Shannon (D-Sterling Heights) issued the following statement:
“Michigan was once a leader in educational achievement, but an unwillingness to sufficiently fund our public schools and prioritize the future of our young people has left us falling behind. All Michiganders agree that we need to give our students the resources they need to succeed, but for the past eight years leadership in this state has failed to make that a priority. I’m pleased to see positive changes being made in Michigan, and to have Gov. Whitmer taking charge to lead this crucial, long-standing issue. I’m ready to do whatever I can to work with our Governor to support our teachers and children in the Legislature.”
Rep. Shannon was joined by Warren Consolidated School Board Trustee, Carl Weckerle for the address.
